Report 1

I have finished marking the Reports 1 and I want everyone to come to the consultation class tomorrow at 2pm to disccus them. We will not be having the consultation per group. I will be holding the consultation in the lecture class from 2-4pm and we will discuss your report 1 as a whole.

Attendance is compulsory.

There are still MANY of you who are getting your referencing and citations wrong. Consult the references I have here for you before consultation. I would like to NOT see these mistakes repeated in the next report.

Also, why do some of you hand in your reports with no title to your research?????

be prepared for an indepth discussion tomorrow during consultation time. Everybody please be there at 2pm.

Thank you.

regards,
Dr. Mai

Dear all,

Here is a site for you to look at to know how to reference and cite your sources:

1. http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/~pxc/refs/index.html

This class is using the American Psychological Association (APA) style of referencing:

Please go to the MMU IPS Website for additional information on how to cite/reference your sources:

Research Methodology readings

Dear all,

Some sites with additional research methodology readings you can refer to. These ones are easy and simple enough to understand the process and will give you an idea of how you can use different methods to collect data.

1. http://www.languages.ait.ac.th/el21meth.htm (writing up your research)
2. http://gsociology.icaap.org/methods/(resources for research methods)
3. http://www.whatisasurvey.info/ (how to do surveys)
4. http://www.rdg.ac.uk/ssc/publications/guides/toptgs.html (how to present your research results)
5. http://wilderdom.com/qualitative.html (for info in qualitative research)

Look at these resources to see how you can incorporate that in your writeups.

Happy research!

Hello all!

Hi and welcome to those who have signed on to this blog....:-)

Let's try to use this as a forum for discussing your design research progress. Post your enquiries here and if anyone has any comments or feddback that would help the person who enquired, please do so. Writing your thesis may be an individual's job, but the research process can be a collaborative effort. And we are a community here on this blog, right? :-)

Anyway, i will moderate and monitor the posts and answer any enquiries that you may have from time to time. Hopefully these feedback and comments will be beneficial to your work.

So to start it off, just a quick recap of what to expect during our consultation times.

1. Form your study groups and try to meet as a group once a week to discuss your progress BEFORE you see me during your appointed consultation time. This will help to make our meeting time more efficient.

2. Please adhere to formatting rules. This will become very important once we get started on your Report 1.

3. Don't forget what goes into your Assignment 1: Proposal, Gantt Chart, Research Questions and a copy of your approved FYP.

4. We will be discussing Report 1 next week during consultation so please meet your research groups.

5. For lecture next Tuesday, please read the 5-page conference paper by Gerald Shortland-Webb and try to answer these:
  1. Who did this research?
  2. Why was this research done?
  3. What was the research issue?
  4. What was the research objective?
  5. What were the research question(s)?
  6. How did the researcher go about collecting the data?
  7. What did the research find?
  8. What was the recommendation(s)?
OK, thats all for now....looking forward to seeing your progress.

Dr. Boss
